I have an NFR (Not for Resale) license for MDW EQ V5. Can I qualify for an upgrade?
No. NFR does not qualify for an upgrade and a full license must be purchased for MDWEQ6.
I recently purchased MDWEQ6. Do I need to pay for the upgrade?
If you have purchased a V6 license in full from Avid, please purchase either “Upgrade from MDWEQ6-AAX to MDWEQ6-AAX+ ($30)” or “Upgrade from MDWEQ6-AAX to MDWEQ6-Native+ ($15)”. Note that the new AAX+ and Native+ versions also include VST and AU. If you have any questions, please contact us.
What happens to my v5/v6 license if I upgrade to AAX+/Native+?
In order for the upgrade to work, your v5 or v6 license will need to be surrendered.
Can I upgrade my UA MDWEQ5 Parametric Equalizer to newer MDWEQ6 versions for the UA platform?
Due to a complicated set of circumstances, at this time there is no immediate path to upgrade our UA MDW xxxxx to MDWEQ6. The MDWEQ6 Native+ version for VST and AU is available for UA users and will not require the surrender of the current UA MDW xxxxx license.
INSTALL
MDWEQ6-AAX 64-bit Install Procedure for Mac/Windows
The current MDW EQ V6 AAX 64-bit (v6.0.3r27) installer does write over existing MDW EQ V5 plug-ins on Mac and Windows. If you have the older versions of MDWEQ5-AAX already installed, and want to install 64-bit MDWEQ6-AAX v6.x.x, you will need to follow one of these procedures.
For Mac:
- Download “MDWEQ6-AAX 6.0.3r27.dmg.zip” and open the installer (available in your Avid account if you own MDW EQ v6 or download from MDW website).
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
- If you have MDWEQ5 in your Plug-Ins folder, the installer will automatically remove EQ5 out of your Plug-ins folder and put them into Plug-Ins (Unused) folder.
- Launch Pro Tools (10.3.8 or higher)
- EQ6 will come up and replace where EQ5 were used (the setting will be kept from the previous saved session).
For Windows:
- Download “MDWEQ6-AAX 6.0.3r27.exe.zip” and open the installer (available in your Avid account if you own MDW EQ v6 or download from MDW website). We recommend you unzip the installer with the free 7zip utility https://www.7-zip.org/
download.html
*This is the only Windows unzip utility which doesn’t have a problem with file paths longer than 280 characters. - Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
- If you have MDWEQ5 in your Plug-Ins folder, a window will pop up with a warning sign prompting you to uninstall MDWEQ5 before installing MDWEQ6-AAX. Please follow the uninstallation process.
- Launch Pro Tools (11.1 or higher)
- EQ6 will come up and replace where EQ5 were used (the setting will be kept from the previous saved session).
I installed MDWEQ6 but I can't find the plug-in in Pro Tools
This is a common problem. MDWEQ6 comes in Mono and Multi-Mono plug-ins. Please check under the multi-mono plug-in folder on your Pro Tools system.
I installed MDWEQ6 but it doesn’t appear in Pro Tools. Only EQ5 loads.
MDWEQ5 and MDWEQ6 cannot be installed at the same time. Uninstall/move MDW EQ5 from the plug-in folder and restart Pro Tools.
Pro Tools plug-ins stored here….
MacOSX. Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Avid > Audio > Plug-Ins (AAX)
Windows. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins (AAX)
How do I find my Pro Tools plug-ins folder on a Mac?
To open the Pro Tools plug-Ins folder on macOS:
- Open Finder
- From the Go menu select “Go to Folder” (Command+Shift+G))
- Type: /Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins
- Hit enter.
I had a demo of the MDWEQ6 installed, then purchased MDWEQ6-Native+ but the iLok won't recognize the newly purchased Native license
If you have previously demo’d our plug-in and purchased MDWEQ6-Native+, be sure to remove MDWEQ6-AAX 3B/5B out of your plug-ins folder otherwise your iLok won’t recognize your newly purchased Native license.
Destinations folders for each plug-ins are as follows:
- Mac: MDWEQ6-AAX: /Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins
- Win: MDWEQ6 AAX: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins
OPERATION
Will old sessions saved with previous versions of MDWEQ open properly with MDWEQ6?

Are MDWEQ5 presets and sessions compatible with MDWEQ6?
Yes, MDWEQ6 can load sessions with MDWEQ5 instantiated and the settings will be the same.
Are MDWEQ6 presets and sessions compatible with MDWEQ5?
If your presets or settings don’t use the new HiQ filter types, then the settings will open fine in EQ5. If you do use the new HiQ filter types in your session or presets, MDWEQ5 will give you a warning in the plugin to let you know that the settings aren’t compatible.
Can I use my mouse wheel with MDWEQ6?
Yes, you can enable the mouse wheel in the MDWEQ6 preferences. The Preferences are accessible in MDWEQ5 and 6 by opening the Band Settings menu.
